Congratulations Courtney , Megan and Sydney you did it !!  I am so happy, proud and excited for you. When I decided to write this post I really didn’t know how to even start or put my emotions into words. I am so honored and thankful to have had the pleasure of spending this year with you. It truly has been a joy working with you. I started looking at all of the images I have captured of you over the year, we sure did have alot of fun!! Ladies, I hope you had as much fun and as I did this senior year!! I love the friendship that was made over the year together. You are not just reps you are also family. I have genuinely enjoyed watching you grow as a individuals, inspiring others around you.

Valentine’s Day Style Shoot | 2017 Senior Reps | Hertford NC | Sarah Hilts Photography

Happy Valentine’s Day !!  A couple of weeks ago me and the 2017 senior reps got together for a quick Valentine shoot. Of course it was another cold and windy day. I am looking forward to spring and summer senior sessions. The reps looked so cute in their outfits!! I had props for each girl to use .. I also shot some video which turn out pretty cute. Between the hair blowing in the face, eyes watering and props flying all over the place the girls did awesome job dealing with the situation.

I only have a few more months left with my 2017 senior reps (sad face) but we have some BIG PLANS for the Spring !! Before I get all sad , Here are some of my favorites images from the Valentine’s Day Style Shoot !!

Perquimans River Style Shoot | North Carolina Senior Photographer | Sarah Hilts Photography

 I shot this beautiful style shoot in August 2016. A week after the session, I submitted my images to Senior Style Guide to be featured on their blog. A couple of days later I received an email saying that my images will be featured on their blog …. I was so EXCITED and HONORED!! This is one of my many goals and dreams in this business.

I have been sitting on this blog post for a while now and I AM so glad I get to share all these GORGEOUS images with you now. I had this idea of girl in a flowy dress on rocks with the wind blowing her dress and hair. I put my inspiration into full throttle. Once I found the dress the next part was the finding the model. I worked with Whitney on her senior portraits and thought she would be the perfect model. Her natural look and blues eyes would just standout. The day before the shoot I went to the store and purchase some beautiful flowers. The yellow and plum colors just looked amazing with the dress. I made the flower crown about hour before the shoot. The day of the shoot it was windy, overcast and the river was a choppy. It was perfect weather for this shoot. Whitney was such a trooper waiting out in the river, climbing on rocks and laying down on dead trees.

We had a lot of fun and laughs. It had incredible time working with Whitney. Thank you again Whitney for being amazing model. A BIG thank you to Senior Style Guide for the Blog Post Feature!!

Eastern North Carolina Ice Storm | Senior Photographer | Sarah Hilts Photography

I know everyone was watching the weather last week since it was calling for snow. I was so excited about our area getting 10 + inches of snow. Of course on Saturday I woke up to ICE  instead of snow… ugh. The ice on the trees looked beautiful but it also made me worry about losing power. I started charging my camera batteries just incase I lost power. Because I had this amazing shoot on Sunday and a power outage was not going to stop me.

Now Saturday was cold , windy and sleeting all day but it was nothing compared to Sunday. That morning I got up and de-ice my car. Now that was a struggle since it was a big ice-cube. I got my camera bag and packed it with tons of hot hands ! I knew we were going to need them. My wonderful husband drove me to Courtney’s house in Edenton . When I got to Courtney’s house she was almost dressed and ready. I open up all the hot hands and started putting them in our boots and jackets. The sun was shining  bright but it was still freaking cold. The wind was gusting around us making it feel even colder. Now I was really disappointed about not getting snow , but the ice looked BEAUTIFUL in the sun. Courtney’s purple gown look magnificent against the icicles in the tree limb background. Courtney was a trooper … she did incredible job dealing with the elements.

The last day of the year and I just wanted to say thank you to all my wonderful clients and reps for making 2016 so special. I look forward to 2017 and welcome all my new adventures. With that being said here are some of my FAVORITE IMAGES from 2016 !! I am sharing one image from each session I shot over 2016.

Here is run down of my 2016. I attended my first senior workshop hosted by Hope Taylor. Met some pretty awesome senior photographers from all over the US. I had my first featured blog post this year which was very exciting. Traveled with my senior rep team to VA for a Style Shoot. Shot my first senior video and still learning more about that subject. Tried out some new shooting ideas like milk baths , smoke bombs , powder paint and studio lighting. I could list a whole lot more but I will stop here.

Downtown Elizabeth City , NC Senior Portraits | Seth Class of 2017 | Sarah Hilts Photography

Seth’s senior session was the last session of the year and it did not disappoint. Seth is a handsome senior that attends Northeastern High School. He also plays soccer and runs track for the Eagle’s. The day of his session it was so cold and windy.  Seth was such a good sport dealing with the weather, especially shooting his track and soccer pictures. I really enjoyed walking around the high school it made me think of all the fun times I had as an Eagle.

The school was the first stop on our location list to capture track and soccer portraits.  Make sure to checkout Seth he has 2 State Champion rings in track !!  I think they are pretty awesome !! These to sports are very new to me. Seth’s dad was great help with tips on both sports, also I really enjoyed learning about all moves in soccer.  The second part of the session was over by Charles Creek Park in Elizabeth City . This is where I got some cool drum stick shots and  I forgot to mention earlier that Seth plays the drums too !!  This guy is incredible and so talented . The wind was still pretty chilly by the river but this location offers some gorgeous waterfront pictures. The last part of his session was in downtown Elizabeth City area. I love our little downtown area with its wonderful texture walls, iron fences and small town feel. This was a perfect way to end  Seth’s senior session and amazing year.

Seth was a joy to photograph to say the least. We had a lot of fun !! I had a great time talking and hanging out with Seth, his mom and dad. Here are a few of my favorite images from Seth’s senior sessions. Thank you Seth for allowing me to be a part of your senior year.

Da’Mesha’s Downtown Edenton Senior Portrait Session| Class Of 2017| North Carolina Senior Photographer

This sweet girl has the most INFECTIOUS smile. My cheeks hurt that afternoon from smiling all morning at Da’Mesha. She was so fun and full of joy. Da’Mesha is a senior at John A. Holmes in Edenton, NC. She also plays basketball and volleyball for her school. GO ACES !!!

The morning of Da’Mesha’s senior session was so cold. I stood at my back door with my cup of coffee looking at a blanket of white frost on the ground, hoping the sun would start kissing the ground and warm up. We met at the school first for sport pictures. Earlier that month we talked about locations that she would like to use for her senior portraits. I loved the locations she picked. Downtown Edenton offers so much texture and color for portraits. Of course with it being FALL the trees looked beautiful all painted in orange, yellow and reds. Plus , you can’t have a senior session without a little leaf throwing !!
